Voderup 35 and Voderup Klint

More than any other of our lovely wedding locations, Voderup 35 inspires real affection and love in our wedding couples and other guests. Why? you ask.

It has an amazing air of tranquillity, with rarely any noise other than the birds. It has truly wonderful views, up the coast of Ærø past Bregninge, across the sea northwest to the Danish island of Als, and to the southwest to Schleswig Holstein – on a really clear night the lights of Kiel can be seen. And the house has a unique location – surrounded by the protected nature reserve of Voderup Klint towards the sea, and an organic small holding with cows, goats and chickens on the inland side.

For many visitors their favourite feature is the barbecue terrace and its connected greenhouse. Once for the farm’s pigs, the barbecue area is covered in clematis and has been fitted with huge windows, so the view over the Klint and out to sea can be enjoyed even if the wind is blowing. The greenhouse next door (once for the chickens) is filled with vines, tomatoes and herbs, and is the best place in the cosmos for an evening glass of white wine, especially in spring and autumn.

The garden around the house has old fruit trees, an organic vegetable patch, a swing and a treehouse, with loads of room to relax in a hammock or throw a frisbee.

The farmhouse itself is was rebuilt in 1914 and recently modernised. It has been expanded into the old barn and has lots of room – up to 7 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a big kitchen and dining room, and most important of all, a wood burner for hyggelig winter evenings.

Louise and Moloney lived here from 2007 to 2015, having previously used it as a summer house, and it is where their boys Max and Charlie grew up. Happy days. It’s quiet. The boys would rush to the window if a tractor went past…

The weddings are usually held in the garden under the willow arch, or out on the Klint itself with the sea behind. Neli, our wonderful photographer, loves it so much she will bring couples out here specially for a photo shoot. The tree house is her favourite!

For the couple, a big attraction is that not only do they have a unique, peaceful and lovely location for the ceremony, they also have a haven to live in and also room to entertain their guests, if they wish.

The Klint itself is a remarkable series of giant steps down to the sea, formed as the layers of clay have gradually slid down, one over the other. It is now a nature reserve and a designated place of special geological and scenic interest. It has special flowers and insect life, some unique to Voderup Klint, and varied birdlife too – the highlight is the majestic white-tailed eagle which cruises past if you are lucky.
